Qualifications to be an ambulance driver in Punta Gorda

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Able to drive in various traffic and weather conditions
• Shows effective customer relations and problem solving skills
• Develops a satisfactory working knowledge of procedures
• Has a knowledge base of the Southwest Florida area (Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota and Manatee counties)
• A driver with a class E license and good driving record
• Valid CPR certification
• Must pass mandatory pre-employment drug screen and a background check

Behavioral and Physical Skills:

• The ability to maintain a positive and cooperative working environment in the midst of stressful situations
• The ability to work during odd hours and long hours, sometimes outdoors, and in unpleasant weather
• The ability to work while standing, bending and kneeling for significant time intervals
• The ability to sometimes be responsible for lifting patients, the combined weight of which exceeds 250 pounds, with the assistance of a partner
• Strength is needed to lift, push and pull patients with or without assistance at various times from all the parts of the body, but not limited to, arms, legs and shoulders
• Ability to mitigate or avoid health risks from exposure to ill patients

Preferred Skills:

• Currently enrolled in a state certified EMT program and at least 90 days into training
• CPR for medical providers and First Aid training would be a plus
